Payday Loan Scams

This information was posted on the FBI website.

The Internet Crime Complaint Center has received many complaints from victims of payday loan telephone collection scams. Callers claim the victim is delinquent in a payday loan and must repay the loan to avoid legal consequences. The callers purport to be representatives of the FBI, Federal Legislative Department, various law firms, or other legitimate-sounding agencies. They claim to be collecting debts for companies such as United Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Net, and other Internet check-cashing services.

According to complaints received from the public, the callers have accurate data about victims, including Social Security numbers, dates of birth, addresses, employer information, bank account numbers, and the names and telephone numbers of relatives and friends. How the fraudsters obtained the personal information varies, but in some cases victims have reported they completed online applications for other loans or credit cards before the calls started.

The fraudsters relentlessly call the victim’s home, cell phone, and place of employment. They refuse to provide any details about the alleged payday loans and become abusive when questioned. The callers have threatened victims with legal actions, arrests, and, in some cases, physical violence if they do not pay. In many cases, the callers harass victims’ relatives, friends, and employers.
Some fraudsters have instructed victims to fax a statement agreeing to pay a certain amount, on a specific date, via a pre-paid Visa card. The statement further declares the victim will never dispute the debt.
If you receive these calls, do not follow the caller’s instructions. Rather, you should:
  • Notify your banking institutions.
  • Contact the three major credit bureaus and request an alert be put on your file.
  • Contact your local law enforcement agencies if you feel you are in immediate danger.
  • File a complaint at www.IC3.gov.
Tips to avoid becoming a victim of this scam:
  • Never give your Social Security number—or personal information of any kind—over the telephone or online unless you initiate the contact.
  • Be suspicious of any e-mail with urgent requests for personal financial information. The e-mail may include upsetting or exciting but false statements to get you to react immediately.
  • Avoid filling out forms in e-mail messages that request personal information.
  • Ensure that your browser is up-to-date and security patches have been applied.
  • Check your bank, credit, and debit card statements regularly to make sure that there are no unauthorized transactions. If anything looks suspicious, contact your bank and all card issuers.
  • When you contact companies, use numbers provided on the back of cards or statements

Everytime these idiots call I always start off at yelling.at them....they try to say they are trying.to.collect.on a payday loan I supposedly went diliquent on....I laugh and scream bull****.....and repeat this back to them .......under FTC regulation they need to provide me.with the business information of their companies name address business lic# and if they claim they are from an attorneys office..... I yell back that.under the.law they have to.provide.me with the.bar associations lic# .....anyone who calls you from a debt.agency is obligated.underneath the.law.to provide this this info.....now here's how .much of.a dumb as theses guys are......first.its.always some.dudes.with INDIA accents..... second.its the same ass****'s that call they just use a different.company name .......I've been.hit with national payday advance, quick cash, and American payday loans and much more...they are such idiots....if one calls you stating....if.you.don't.pay them. They will call your job or file paperwork and sue you....tell them.this.....come and.get.it.you piece of s***........ you can have half of.what.I.got....which is all my debt.and.soon to be damage fees after a real attorney rapes your.ass and.prosecutes you for false representing.yourself.as a debt agency.....my advice to all of you is f*** with them ....always f*** with them .....eventually when there.is enough of us.doing.it.the dead beats maybe can try.to.apply for.a McDonald's job ....instead.of.trying.to scam us out.of.our.hard working.income.......and some.here's some...helpful advice always check.your.credit......bank of america has a program called privacy assist or.there.is. identityguard.com these will let you know.exactly.what.is going on all the time......and if they say you Owe a debt check.the.credit....if its reported it could be.ligit... however always double.check and.if.you think.your information has been.compromised dispute it.........as fraud and the credit.bureau will investigate the.company.....you can also check a.businesses ligit status.at the better.business bureau website....a ligit company has to hold a license in order.to.service the.public. .....hope that helps and.....like.I.said always f*** with them ........until they get the.picture ....though I.still get calls from.them ...like I.got.one.today....they arent as.often and they always recognize me.by when I.starting.going.off.on.them.....

    1. no need to argue or yell--just tell them to do what they say and you will be waiting for them. That you would love to see them in court. After a few times, they stop calling. Trust me--it always works for me.

    1. I just recieved a call from them and decided to investigate them because it did not sound legit. I would not do it if I were you because most payday loan companies do not require any deposit, they only check your info to find out if you qualify, so if you do, why would you have to make a deposit. If anything you should report them to the BBB, like I am doing! Good luck. They told me I was approved for more than 1000 but I had to first purchase a Green Dot Value Card and place 150.00 on it. He got frustrated when I asked who the company was and wouldn't give me any more information. He claimed if I didn't want to do it then he is not forcing me. That was enough. I never applied for a "Personal loan" anyway.

  6. It isn't legitimate! American PayDayLoan is a SCAM! They are located in Delhi Mercad, CA, but you have to wire the money via Western Union to Dehli, India; you have to mark the application as "personal", and they will give you a "contact" to include on the form like SANDASH or some other Indian name. They tell you that as soon as they receive the money, they'll transfer the money to your account, but it never happens. You call them and they'll tell you there is a technical problem. There is no tech problem, and you'll never see your money. They pulled this crap with a friend of mine who was desperate for money. I loaned her the money she needed, and AmericanPayDayLoan is well known with fraud agencies across the country. Be careful, if you need money that badly, do your research. Legitimate pay day loan companies DO NOT ask you for momey! They will ask for your personal information, your employer, the last two times you were paid, they will call your bank and verify the last two salary payments made to your account, and you will receive your money the next business day.

  10. I got the same threats and threats of being arrested in the next 24 hours from these Indian pricks! They did their schpeel, but then said (with an attitude) that their client is "American Payday Loans." I never had an account with them, ever, and in Colorado, it's illegal for anybody to do any business with payday loans (or any relevance to it) via online or over-the-phone.
Plus, I've been bombarded on several occasions (sometimes literally all-day and even way past hours of operation at 11:30pm and later) by these pricks! Also, I am on a "DONOT CALL" registry. These "people" have broken countless local, state and federal laws, and we're outsourcing our jobs and funding to them? What in the hell?!?

These "people" told me that I owe a huge debt to American Payday Loans in the amount of $8,845.00, not including attorney fees, court costs, etc. They even went so far as to threaten me "being arrested, my credit report being shot, employers not going to hire me, etc." I am a Disabled/retired veteran, and I am wondering who in this country actually "sold our information", if these "people" have such accurate details (without us telling or verifying any of it)? Good Lord! This is really starting to piss me off to no-end!

Reason for this was the time it would take for them to redeposit my money into my account. These same people did this to me last year and I did not play their game then or now. How can one be protected form these guys. I agree, they sound like they are from India. Think I am going to text them this information. Hope they don't con anyone else today!!!

  16. They just got me for $525. first they tell me in order for me to get a $1500 loan, I had to buy a vaniilia prepaid visa and put $125 down to insure that I will make my payments, I do that, and expect to see the funds transfered into my account. Not their, so I call back they tell me that it was a red flag on my credit report, and I had to pay $225 to get it removed. I argued with them that I didnt have it and then they said all I have to pay is half they would front the rest. So I did, still no funds. I call back they were having problems putting the money itnto my account, so they had to western Union it, but western union would have a charge of $600 I argued i didnt have it, they said they would pay half and I pay $300 and Mike would stay on the phone with me until the funds were transfered. Like an idiot I did it. Oh I forgot they uped the loan to $3000. they gave me 2 fake MTCN numbers wich the people at western union could not find. No trace of the company or me. I feel like a fool. I took $300 for my joint account thiking that I was going to put it right back in. Now I am short for my rent, my babys daycare. And I have a pissed of wife. I wish I new where these chumps lived. May the wrath of GOD come down hard on these dudes. 4/2/2013

My mind says take the money & run but then I read they are unlicensed so I should have them reverse the deposit & close the account....sounds like free money.... the company is united holdings.. anyone know of them?

  22. I too was scammed out of money. The company said that if I were to pay the proccessing fee that I would get my loan within minutes after the fee was paid. I called them back to find out why the money that I was borrowing was not in my account yet and they said that the US Government was holding the money because I had to pay taxes on the loan money. I am not sure why I needed to pay any money upfront to get my loan, so I called the US Government to see if that was true and they said that it is a scam. I am in the proccess of getting my money back from the fake payday loan company. I am taking them to court.

  23. I received some info from them also. I did not fall for this one but I have been scammed by something similar in the past. I say have some fun with them.. Just keep sending them emails with the stupidest questions you can make up. I signed one of mine "Juan Tequilleu", translated as "Want to kill you...". Sorry you folks got scammed. I can relate and it just pisses you off the more you think about it. Hopefully these jerks will get caught.
