Publishers Clearing House Scam

Who doesn't want to win the lottery or a sweepstakes?  I think we have all had that "dream" at one time or another.  What would we do?  How would we spend the money?  This is why so many people want to believe that there is a chance that they really DID win when they are contacted by scammers pretending to be with The Publisher Clearing House or other sweepstakes.

The scammers do not just send emails any more.  Some are calling their intended victims directly.  This is why it is important to protect information like your address and phone number.  Do not post this information on blogs or open message boards.

Things that are still the same with this scam is that they will ask you to wire money to them, for legal fees or other reasons.  Remember, if the lottery or sweepstakes is legitimate, they could deduct those fees from your winnings without you having to wire them anything.

Doing a Google search on any information that you have on the "sweepstakes representative" that contacts you is one way to try and check things out.  Often the phone number that the call came from will be from another country, which is a dead giveaway that this is a scam.

  2. I received a phone call yesterday from John Jones Carter His phone number is 1-876-451-4657 in Jamaica. He asked if I had received his check and why I had not replied. This is a really clever scam to extract money for fees and you will never hear from them again. We did not give them any other information or money - except that they obviously had our phone number. When I informed him that the police were monitoring our phone he replied that the FBI and the US Marshall was monitoring his phone. Speech was poor and obviously a fake. Watch out !!

    1. I got a call also from Jamaica 1-876-352-8156 claiming he was Michael Fear. He said he would be coming to my house this afternoon, to go get a green dot card for $355.00 from CVS for the 1% of securing winnings. He claimed I won 1.5 million dollars and that they would be coming to my house this afternoon.

    3. Just got a call today from 876-466-5028 claiming they were (cuz it was two guys, the first didn't give a name and the second, the "manager", said he was John Logan) from Publisher's Clearing House. They had really hard to understand accents, but they eventually got across that I won a prize of 6.5 million and that all I had to do was pay my 1% of taxes... then told me that the one percent was $399... yeah, sorry, that's not 1% of 6.5 mil. Anyways, I googled the number, and though it didn't exactly match, this came up and I realized that due to the area code, the number that called me must have been from Jamaica and was obviously a hoax. So, thank you all, you just saved me nearly $400 :3

  3. The Federal Trade Commission warns that if you hear or receive something that sounds too good to be true, (such as with the PCH Sweepstakes) then chances are better than good that it's probably just that. If suspect that it's a scam, or a "bait & switch" kind of offer, best thing to do is take the time to report them to the FTC or BBB. It's the only way to put a stop to shady operations such as these.

  7. Hello Anonymous in Massachusettes. I too am waiting in Illinois for my new Mercedes Benz and one million dollars to arrive at my front door!
The person who called me did say he was from Panama, spoke with a heavy accent. When he called me back the following day and asked if I had received a call from him the day before and I said "No" he called me a f****** liar and hung up. LOL I also reported scam call to real PCH

  8. I got a call yesterday morning from a man who called himself John Walker telling me I won the PCH sweepstakes. All I had to do is send a western union for taxes to Irene Iverson, palm desert ca 92211. I strung him along and had him believing I did go to the western union, and I complained that I was waiting all day for my prize. lol. It was fun pulling his leg. I am a bit upset he did not call me tonite; I have a great line for him, I would have told him that I spoke to my friend Jim Beam at Western Union and the tracking number (I gave him a fake number of course) was cashed. Darn, I would have had so much fun with that. However, I did manage to get him calling me often throughout yesterday and part of today, so he was not bothering anyone else if he was targeting me.

  9. Hi all,

I'd like to provide you with some information that we hope will help you to identify scams. At Publishers Clearing House we do not notify our winners by email, regular postal mail or by telephone. All prize winners of $500.00 or more would be notified by registered mail and all winners of $10,000 or more would be notified in person by our famous Prize Patrol. If you are contacted and asked to pay any amount, for any reason, to claim a prize, you have not heard from the real Publishers Clearing House.

At PCH it is never necessary to pay any money to enter, win or collect one of our prizes. At Publishers Clearing House, the winning is always free! A legitimate sweepstakes will NEVER ask you to send or wire money to enter a sweepstakes, claim a prize or to pay a fee, tax or deposit of any kind. If you are asked to send money to claim a sweepstakes prize for any reason, you are being scammed. If you receive a check and are asked to send money back - you are being scammed.

At Publishers Clearing House, we treat the fraudulent use of our name seriously. We keep track of these incidents and work closely with the law enforcement and consumer protection community to share this information.

Anyone who believes they have been the victim of a fraudulent contact using the name of Publishers Clearing House, may contact us immediately at our toll-free number 1-800-392-4190 and anyone who believes they have received a suspicious email using our name and logo, may forward it to our fraud reporting mailbox, abuse@pch.com. You may also report the incident to the National Fraud Center at www.fraud.org. For more information on sweepstakes scams, please visit the Consumer Affairs section on our website at info.pch.com.

    Hope this helps!

    6. Hey, Anonymous; got my scam call today. I would like to consider myself a pretty smart person; but that was SUPER convincing. I did call PCH BEFORE going any further to verify and was told it was, in fact, a scam. What a horrible way to treat people....and the ability to lie so well is a gift straight from hell. It's creepy.

  11. I just received a phone call from a private number, then shortly after the same person called back from this number "876-284-9242", the person claimed his name was "James Lee" he claim I had won '16.5 million dollars" in the American Publishers Clearing House, and the he needed either my banking infomation, or my credit card information for me to receive a recepit to claim my prize, I gave him absolutly no information on his initial call, which came from a "private" number. he claimed that he would give me a "code number" and he would call me back for my credit card info, his "code number" was simply the number 50#. He called back from the phone number I mentioned previously,"876-284-9242" trying again to get my info which I refused to provide him with telling, him I was uncomfortable giving out that sort of infomation over the phone and then I hung up on him. I'm waiting to see if he'll call again, I sincerely doubt he will because I refused to provide any information. I googled the number after hanging up on him and it turned out to be a cell phone number from Jamaica which confimed to me this was without a doubt someone trying to fish my information. these used to come in the form of Email but apparently now they are starting to use phone calls for these scams. I'm glad that my comon sense kicked in and that I was smart enough to know not to give out any infomation over the phone. Isn't todays technology wonderful? Please remember if it sounds to good to be true, then chances are it's not.

  12. This morning I received a land-line phone call from 206-965-9911 claiming to be from "..... Global Association". I couldn't understand through the thick accent the first word of the companmy. She claimed they have 10 winners "left over" from the Pub Clearing House and the 10 lucky winners have a chance to win $950,000. The red flag got redder as far as I was concerned. I asked from where she was calling and she said, Seattle. I "played dumb" and said I was old and hard of hearing and she had to speak more slowly. When the words, Fed Ex, Western Union and Moneygram came up I played even dumber...soon SHE HUNG UP ON ME. Even tho she didn't claim to be from Pub Cl House directly, she used their name and by the way she did not have my name as is used when I enter PCL contests.

  13. The phone numbers they use are fake, there are businesses you can sign up for online that will allow you to call from any phone number and you can put any phone number in as the phone number the call is coming from. So, there is no way to track or trace where these numbers are really coming from. I was scammed by a repo company who used these tactics with me when I tried to recover my boat, they got my boat then held it hostage for thousands after quoting me $350 over the phone. The number the actual repo guy was calling from was fake and the names I was given were fake also. I discovered this when I attempted to call the number back and was not able to. The actual business number was real, after investigating, I found that this had been happening to several people and businesses all over the United States, the scam business was based out of Canada.

  14. I too WON the "PCH" 2nd prize! 2011 Mercedes with insurance provided by GEICO, and 855K in cash. I just need to go to Walmart and buy a $2500 gift card!! TOO Funny. I asked him if he knew that Americans had websites listing this as a scam, including their Jamaican tele 876-308-4709. He said the phones were "out" at headquarters. He said I could verify with PCH that it is all true by asking for "Mr. Mick Mann". If only these people would get a REAL job...

  15. I just got a call saying I won 1.2 million. They are calling on behalf of PCH. His name is Mark and the number is 718-285-7879. He said all I needed to do was to mail $595.00 to their account Leroy Leslie in Queens, NY and have the receipt when the marshalls come with the certified cashier's check. Yeah...and I was born yesterday...I played dumb and asked him what the $595 was for. He said taxes and fees. Then I asked to speak with a manager because I didn't believe him. He had me hold and his "manager" Kevin Robinson told me the same thing. I told him that I know this is a scam and I'm going to report it and then hung up on him.

  16. I am sick to death of these scam artists. They absolutely are artists indeed. now they send you forms of all kinds, documented to boot. The kicker is that after they tell you that you've won x amount of money then they ask you to send in 10.99 or 12.99, or 24.99 to some ASP company in Kansas. If I've won money why am I paying money? I hate it. Seriously, they should get real jobs and I hope nobody is crazy enough to send them money. I don't think the real PCH would ask you to send money, just by some of those geeky items. Some of them are pretty cool, though.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I would NOT call them back to tell them off. If you make them upset they may just do things to try and annoy you. You would not want to end up getting phone calls from them at 3am just to get back at you. Let it go and be happy you did not get scammed.

  23. I experienced the same as the others on this post. When I confronted them that I knew this was a scam they began to threaten me and asked if I wanted to die tonight. They were going to blow my house up and kill me if I didn't give them a pre paid card number from walmart. What a hassle!!

  24. Apparently this scam is spreading. I discovered a message from "Robert Wilson from Publisher's Clearing House" on my 91-year-old mother's answering machine when we returned from a funeral and dinner this evening. The caller ID just says "Wantagh" and the phone number was 516-803-1992. The message said he was calling regarding the prize that she won and to "call back as soon as you can." The foreign accent (Middle-Eastern? Eastern European? - too short a message to be able to identify) made me suspicious. Rather than returning the call, I first checked the PCH website to see whether they notify winners by phone, which they don't do. I also did an internet reverse look-up, which said the phone number belongs to Cablevision Lightpath, Inc., in Jericho, NY. I wonder if they know that one of their phone numbers is being used for this scam. The scariest part of this is that he actually identified my mother by name. I'll be calling PCH to report this directly to them on Monday. I may even contact Cablevision Lightpath, too, in case it may be one of their employees running this scam from one of their phones while at work. Don't you wish PCH (and other such companies) would actually go after these scammers and prosecute them, rather than just posting "alerts" on their websites notifying consumers to be aware of specific existing scams? Maybe if they knew there's a good chance they'd be caught and there'd be serious consequences, they'd think twice about running these scams.

  25. I am currently..this minute, trying to dig through information that my daughter received telling her she has just won 45,000.00 from pch. There is a check for 2,000.00 supposedly for fees...the address on the check doesn't match the address on the letter..hmmm..sounds like a scam to me! The awful thing is, my daughter is a single, (divorced) mother of two little boys and just lost her job! What a cruel thing to do to someone who needs it so badly! I wish these people could be caught and dealt with harshly!!

  26. I just received a call from land line that showed the call from Jamaica 1-876-854-4508. This person said he was from the law office of Robert Morgan and that I had just won $2.5 million and a 2012 Lincon Navigator. WOW thats pretty funny considering he was calling outside the US and then when he told me the town that was near me I told him that I have never heard of it and then he changed his line and said that he was calling from New York. Then he went on to tell me that I would have to pay a 1% fee for services and a 1% fee to the IRS, he also told me that he would call back with the amount that I would need to pay. I played along with this and said I would wait for his call, in the meantime I called the FRAUD hotline for the real PCH and gave them the information. They said that when this Robert Morgan called back to let him know that I did indeed contact the Real PCH and this is a scam and that I would not be sending them any money nor would I give any personal information and that the call was reported to the FBI and hang up. So needless to say he didnt wait till tomorrow he called a minute ago and said that he had the amount and before he could tell me I ripped into him about how I contacted the real PCH and that this is a scam and you will get nothing from me and he started going off about how I am a liar and that he was real and I interrupted him and said that it has been reported and to stop calling me and HUNG UP.

When he called again I said I didn't want to do that so he said "No problem", just go to Walgreens and buy a Green Dot card for $500 dollars and call him back. Later I called back and he asked for the number on the back and said call back in twenty minutes and I'll tell you what time we'll be at your door with the check and the tow truck with my New 20012 Mercedes car.. 31. Yes, my situation was similar as most I've read. Caller said my husband (who is on SSI for epilepsy) won the "PCH" 2nd prize! Except ours was a 2011 BMW with insurance provided by GEICO, and 950K in cash. Would have been nice if the offer was legit, we're driving an old beater car and living in an RV!! However, in adition to PCH scam customer service (sad that they actually HAVE that!) and my local police (both who did nothing more than politely take my info and say thanks) *I* called the police for where the money was supposed to be picked up and gave them the info and got working with a Detective in that area to bust the guy trying to pick the money up! Why can't Western Union have a hotline (like PCH) and work with people to catch these guys?? They can look up the Money Transfer number ONLINE, and never go to get caught unless they see on the webpage the number and amount is legit! Come on guys, work together to stop these guys!
IF YOU GET ONE OF THESE, DO LIKE I DID, CALL THE POLICE FOR THE PICKUP LOCATION, THIS IS THEIR JURISDICTION, AND THEY DON'T LIKE PEOPLE PISSING IN THEIR POOL. THEY MAKE THE EFFORT, ONE OF THESE DAYS, ONE OF THESE JERKS IS GONNA GET CAUGHT!!!
Contact info was: 1-876-283-5751 - Mr. Peterson, Send money to Mr. Micheal Deal, Atty at Law (not really,) Summersville, WV, 26651.
Anyone else with a Summersville WV Pick Up location can contact Sgt. Blake with the Summersville PD. (See my link for their contact info)

Then i had to come home and call them back and let them know that i have a card. Then something else about getting ahold of my bank to put it in and then something about calling the IRS! seriously!!! I didn't think that winners were contacted through a phone! My boyfriend called and thought that this was serious. I knew it wasn't!!! I'm not falling for that bogus crap!

The sad thing is my father did pass away and my mother is deeply involved in a scam for several years now and has lost all of her resources to the scammers, identity theft etc and will soon being losing her house, not to the scammers, but because of foreclosure. It is really sad the authorities can't do something to stop these scammers. My mother is a lost cause and still doesn't get that she is being scammed. She is 81 years of age. I hope this comment can help others from falling prey to these scammers.

  38. I think they are reaching out to all countries not just the United States. I am in Canada and I recieved the call. I had won 2.5 million. He asked me to go to Walmart and buy a green dot card. I believe this is a debit/credit card. We do not have them here. He tried to get me to go to Western Union. He told me his name was Eric Anderson. His phone number is 1-867-494-2439 (Jamaican #). He gave me a name to wire money to of Hallet Scott in either Richmond or Hanover Jamaica W.I He is very very persistant. I told him I had called the fraud department of Publishers Clearing house and he still kept pushing. Saying this was the Jamaican division not the American division. He wanted $120 as a registration fee. I must be registered to obtain the prize. While I was on the phone with the fraud department he tried calling me 6 times. Since he wouldn't take no for an answer and be nice about it I told him I was on the way to Western Union. Lets see how many more times he calls. It amazes me the persistance even when I told him I called the fraud department. Even when I told him I had no intention of giving him money he had a line for everything. Well back to making supper, oh there is another phone call. Time to give him more or a crap story. Wonder how long it will take him to give up?? hahahahahahah I sure hope more people tell other people about this so no more honest people get taken. Spread the word as far as you can.

  39. Add a very persistent James Washington at 876-508-6276 to this list. He was very difficult to understand. I couldn't identify the accent, it was more like a speech impediment. He hasn't asked for money (yet) but claims to be from Publishers Clearing House AND the Better Business Bureau. I asked how he got my number. It seems I've won a $325,000 raffle because of shopping at places like Target and Wal-Mart, but I needed to verify my name. I asked why he didn't already know my name if I was a winner, and he said he had been trying to contact me all day (I must be busy!) and the number was in his company cell phone but he wasn't at his office. I told him to call back the next day from his office, with my name, and we'd talk. Darned if he didn't call again this morning at 6:30 am my time, and had my first name (albeit poorly pronounced). I said it was really early, and he offered to call me back. I got online, looked up PCH and called the fraud hotline. After giving them all the information to report to the FTC, they recommended I tell the caller I know it's a scam. We'll see if they call again. I am not looking forward to the threats; so far he has been very polite and called me "sweetie" several times. He thinks I should trust him because he is "with the government" and he wouldn't do anything to scam me...funny thing, every time he's called I could hear music and voices in the background. Classic boiler room operation.

  41. I just got a call from "Mark Stetson" the number he gave me is 1-876-465-9768 and said he was with PCH and US Mega Millions... He was very hard to understand, not sure if it was an accent or a speech impediment, but he told me I won 2.5 million and a new BMW. Told me I had to cover 3% of the taxes or $499.00. Told him I didn't have that and he told me to try to borrow it from someone... He called me back a half hour later, told him I didn't have the money and that I knew he was trying to scam me and told him not to call me back (he was calling my work #!!). Then he tried to tell me he would pay off my credit card to prove it's not a scam, which made NO sense, one minute he's asking me for $500, the next he's offering me $1300+!! I have a feeling he is going to call me back and I will just have to get forceful I guess. I also plan to call PCH fraud line.

  42. I did fall for their fraud. Although I would love to say I am pretty smart in all that I do and think I have to let my pride go and admit that I didn't think smart or act smart when I gave those idiots $360.00 dollars of my money.how sad and embarrass I feel,I let myself down.Today they called my husband while he was at work and said he won 2.5 million dollars and a 2012 BMW and all that he would have to do is send $360.00 for a registration form to be set up so that it covers their tracts to send it to the rightful owner and they would have the info to follow by on their GPS to navigate to bring it to our house, well then my husband said he couldn't because he was at work but they kept persuading him.So then my husband calls me to tell me about these guys and he wants me to call them and find out if they sound like scammers to me or if they sound legit. That's when my common sense should have kicked in and a red flag should have been put up but I ended up calling, and they suckered me.Bravo to them!!! Sucks for me!!! The good Lord did say to give credit where credit is do. So there you go.Well anyways, they wanted me to go to a western union bank in wal-mart but I told them there was non. So then they asked if wal-mart did money grams and I told them yes, so then he asked me to go make one and then send it. So I did and then he said I would have to wait for 30minutes for them to find my place. Then later on it kept getting later and later and they were a no show but they kept calling with more convincing excuses why they haven't been able to make it just quite yet. They would say things like they were going through customs because they had to make sure all things were not a hassle for us or them. Then they would pose between calls so it looked like they were really going through processes. Then they called back saying that their was a small dilemma because the big check that they were bringing didn't have a specific stamp on it and that I had to purchase that stamp in order for them to leave customs and deliver my husbands prizes. When I told him I had no more to give him he became more persistent and that's when the light bulb started flickering in my head then my husband got the phone when he got home and told them that why couldn't they get the money out of the prize money he supposedly won and they told him they couldn't and so then while they were still trying to convince my husband to try to find the way to get the money my red flag finally went up and I turned on our computer right away and my husband found this scammers blog and THANKS to all your posted comments made it that much easier for us that we finally found the truth about them.

  43. continued...
We called our local police right away filed a report about them so that it can be made known to others around our area's so no one else can get robbed of their money. They called from a 1-876-356-7050 the first four numbers always remain the same and the other seven digits change but I put the whole number just in case they run out of options of selected numbers and have to go backwards of recent used numbers or hopefully if they end up forgetting and using this number for recent other scams. They had a deep accent that was like Jamaican if they were I have no idea. They had me send money to Atlanta GA, but when they would call it would say Jamaica with their number. They had me make the money gram to a girls name: Melissa Jewell but the guy who was making the call who fake named himself went off by James Kennedy and he had an accomplice with him but I forgot what name he went off by he just would say the delivery driver.
They had wanted more money for the stamp on the check they asked for $300.00 more!!! I'm just glad we read your all's posts and we put a stop to it. What a sad way to learn from something but hey... at least I've learned!!! Just one more minor note he tried to use was "do I believe in God" what the nerve..I don't just believe in God I trust in God and if he know God himself he would be afraid of what he is doing and put a stop to it and repent. That even though he may laugh at how he got me today I will have the last laugh. For God is my avenger and God say's vengeance is His!!! So I give my situation to Jesus and wait upon His Word. May Jesus have mercy upon the evil doer!!!

She said the guy said he was from PCH and she need to send a 199.95 and she would have everything by 7:00 tonight. I said pch do not call they present your prize to you. And I told her this was a scam I am a average sweeper and I have never paid a dime for anything I won. It was always sent by fed-ex, ups or certified mail. I saved my sister from being scammed. Hope no one else give in to these people.

  48. Wow. I can't believe how many scams are out there for the same thing. I was reading back at these posts and saw a familiar name. John Carter from PCH saying I won 950,000 + 250,000 + a 2012 White Benz. I said this isn't read and he said "Seeing is Believing!" lol. Then he asked me if I was familiar with CVS Pharmacy because that is where I would have to go to get my claims card. When I asked him for the Bank of America phone number where I could call and varify he said "Oh, well I can have someone call you from and 816 area code". I said he was full of S*%t and hung up.

  49. Just read all of your blogs. It truly amazing & discussing how these scammers continue preying on people's vulnerabilities especially during these tough economic times.

Next time you get what turns out to be a scam call, start "tapping/leaning" on the telephone dial buttons on your cell/land line phone, then hang up. Perhaps an earful of loud, shrill tones & a receiver being slammed down will get the message across!

  50. Okay so here it is the day after Thanksgiving at 3:30 in the afternoon. I recieve a call from 1-876-374-0639 and I didn't recognize the # and I usualld don't answer bit my husband said just see who it is. I answer and the guy on the other end of the line said mam...(in his accent) this is the Publishers Clearing House and I am to tell you that you have won a million dollars and a new car. You need to call this number 1-876-599-8798 extension 5 and ask for Agent Malone to claim your prize. I knew it sounded fishy so I ran to the restroom real quick and decided to get online to do a reverse search on the number online....low and behold it was out of Jamacia so I look up Jamican scams and I get this website. I called the Indiana State Police and they assured me that if I didn't give them any personal information that I should be okay but to just call my bank and make them aware of amy suspicious activity that may occur out of Jamaica. This person was so persistant that he actually caalled back while I was in the restroom amd again while I was reading the information on this site. I proceeded to tell him that I researched bothe of the phone numbers he gave me and they both came out of Jamaica and that I knew that they were part of a money scam and he had the gaul to say " you actually think this is a scam...." I told his yes i knew it was and that I had already called the state police and as of yet (45 minutes later) my phone has not rang again. WATCH OUT PEOPLE!!! DO NOT BELIEVE THESE CALLERS!!

  51. I got a call this morning from "David Sayer", who after researching, is someone actually involved with the real PCH. Of course it wasn't really him and the number was blocked. Luckily the only info he has on me is my phone number (which is scary enough for me). He tried to convince me to "handle my own stuff" and not put my husband on the phone when I got suspicious. He also asked me to talk to the district manager if I didn't believe him. I was so flustered I gave the phone to my husband. Then he started telling my husband about the green dot card he needed to buy and send from Walmart. My husband got so fed up with the vague and suspicious info that he hung up. The guy (with a kind of middle eastern accent) called back and asked my husband why he hung up. He told him because he was a fraud and presented to him all the reasons he felt that way. The guy paused for a moment and then told my husband he would kill him. We called the cops because I was so freaked out. We filed a report, but the cops assured us this has happened to many people and that they were doing what they could to figure who this guy is.

Heart rate went up etc. when I told the guy I was a cop and that if my uncle won money he would not have to pay anything and the taxes would be discussed or taken out of winnings. I told him I wanted something in writing and that we would not wire any money. The jamacan man then hung up the phone. This is rediculous. These people need to be caught.

  54. Just got off the phone with a guy who claimed to be from PCH telling me I had won $5000 plus a $500 voucher good at my favorite grocery store.
He was very concerned with verifying that I hadn't written a bad check in the last year.
I hung up on him when he asked for my checking account #.
As many here may know, PCH NEVER notifies winners by phone. It's either the prize patrol van (unannounced) or a certified letter with a phone # to call.

  55. I got a call about an hour ago on my cell from a restricted number. The reception was really poor and I couldn't understand everything he said, but he claimed I had won $250,000.00. He asked if I had received some notices in the mail, and I told him I hadn't looked at the mail for a while. When he asked me to check it I told him I was at work and couldn't. He gave me a number 1-876-397-4930 and asked me to call when I got home and checked the mail. I did a reverse lookup and the number is from a Mossel (Jamaica) mobile phone from Kingston, JM. Obviously I won't be calling back, even if I hadn't already thrown out the latest PCH notices.

  57. If you get a phone call from pch saying you won money dont believe them!! They called my dad yesterday with a very convincing voice say that he won 950,000 and they needed my dad to pay for a federal stamp for the check and the paper work that needed the stamp... Well my dad ended up giving them 1212.00 yesterday then they called today after a big ass run around saying because they did not bring him his prize last night because they did not have a full payment of what they needed, and then said they will be bringing his prize to the house after he paid a storage fee on the check and that he won a brand new mercedes car and that there was another fee of 738.00 for the storage fee and then after getting that amount they are demanding another amount for storage, they took all of his money that he had considering that he borrowed some of it, so now the scam artist are 1800.00 richer and my dads flat broke and will be struggle and try to get by through this month, expecially with being on disability and only receiving money once a month so if u have someone call you from a 18764550640 number or 876 area code saying u won anything do not give them anything... They are saying that there names are mr. Nelson, and mary cooper from pch and saying the IRS is involved!!

  60. My mom lost $500 to a Jamaican Publisher's Clearing House scam. The man told her to go to a K-Mart near her house (gave her the location) to purchase a green dot card. He then called her back to get the number from the card. She quickly realized she had been scammed, but it was too late. She continued to receive calls from the same man and a woman, trying to regain her trust and asking for more money. My mom was scared because they told her they were at a local hotel and they knew where she lived. Police told her they were from Jamaica based on the area code, 876. Following those calls, she started to receive calls from the 'Consumer Protection Agency' using a Virginia area code. This person claimed a suspicious package addressed to her had been intercepted off a plane. I told her not to call back, and to stop answering the phone unless she recognized the caller's name or number!! But sometimes, resilience is low among seniors living alone and wanting to prove they can manage on their own . . .

Long story short, when I called him out on it, and told him that he needed to stop bring up God and blessings into it, and when I asked his name and an address for the company, he became belligerent and vulgar. When he kept insisting they were legitamate and that he'd send the FBI to my house to "prove it", I then told him to please just stop his nonsense, and he began shouting, "Suck my d*ck, suck my d*ck!" repeatedly and hung up.

He was so believable..I told him I didnt believe him and he said he was "christian for ten years with a family and daughters just like me" and went on about not lying and company quality. I am poor, so Its not like i have alot of money. He sat on the phone with me for an hour an a half until i went down to western union to use a "senders paper" to send $160 to "Oshane Medley" in Jamaica, WI. JAMAICA? I asked him why it was jamaica after i sent it and he ordered me to stop asking questions and told me to put on nice clothes for when the PCH crew arrived and asked me what color bow i wanted wrapped around "my new car". I was scammed out of $160 dollars :(

There were so many red flags, like being under 18 and sending money to a different country to someone with a funky accent, but I wanted to believe that me and my family were about to start having a better life with this money, that this was actually happening. He was so believable.

  82. My mom was scammed yesterday for $100.00 that she put on a green dot card for them. A James Razor from PCH called telling her that she had won $500,000.00 and a 2014 Mercedes Benz and Mr. Razor and a couple US Marshalls were meeting her with the prize winnings (because she did not feel comfortable giving her address as she lives alone). They then called her a few more times (while I was with her) telling her the were on there way from Greenville, SC but then requested $500.00 more on another green dot card (she refused). She told them that she would be glad to give them the $500.00 (they said was required for a U.S. Stamp by the IRS) as soon as she received her certified check for the winnings promised to her. They then told her that they would meet her at her bank in the morning for the exchange. NO ONE SHOWED. Yes I know, I wouldn't have went either but she was still hopeful this was not a scam. The phone numbers used to correspond with her were (239)257-4960 and (876)446-7648. Please do not fall for this scam. I asked her how they got her information as everyone knows PCH does not call you and tell you that you have won something - They just show up and surprise you with your winnings. She said she didn't know but that they told her that got her information from the IRS and because she paid her bills on time with her lean holders. This has to be the biggest crock I have ever heard of and for anyone out there that doesn't know there is a "DO NOT CALL" list for cell phones also you just have to register your cell number at www.donotcall.gov
I have made sure my mothers number is on that list as of today! Hope this information helps someone.

    1. I was called today by James Razor from 1-876-522-5458. The first call he said I had won $550,000 & a mercedez for shopping at Walmart & paying my bills on time. He said he needed me to call him right back toll free to claim the prize. I attempted to call. Verizon said it was a Jamaican #. Leariness#1. He called back wanting to know why I had not called. I told him he was in Jamaica. He said he was in Rock Hill & that phone companies make that mistake all the time bc Jamaica & toll free are both 876 (really?). Leary#2. He calls a 3rd time. I told him my phone company insists it is an international call. I then tell him I looked him up online & it says he's a scammer. Leary#3. He hangs up. Guess he decided I didn't win after all ;-)

  85. Yes I too received a call from Peter James Monroe today saying I won $850,000, and a mercedes from Publishers Clearing House (PCH). I knew right away it was a scam and decided to play along. After a lot of blah blah blah and important confirmation #'s that I had to keep very secure, he asked if I could be home at 3:30 to meet the reps. Then he asked what city I lived in. I told him he should know that. Then he sort of brushed it off and said well you might work in another area. He said I needed to obtain a "registration card" at my local Rite Aid for $299 and it would be reimbursed to me in my winnings. hehe I told him I was so excited that I was running out the door to buy it...and hung up on him.

Then proceeds to give all kinds of details, including a tag number on the car (really, thought I would have to register to get that???), UPS tracking numbers, even an attorney's name and ID number. Big scam!! Wanted me to send $3400.00 for 1% of taxes due. Don't think so!!

  93. Just received a call from 876-594-4471. The voice which was difficult to understand (muffled and seemed altered) stated I had won Publisher's Clearing house sweepstakes. I asked about the phone number showing Jamaica and he stated Jamaica Wisconsin. As he continued to give information about what I won, I Goggled PHC and Jamaica to find this website. When asked if I was interested in claiming my prize, I asked what fees were immediately involved. Only $506 for the official yellow id card to collect $25,000,000 and a 2015 SUV. Continued to read a few more items and finally stated no thanks.

  94. I just received a phone call from 876-254-1483 from a John White, who said to work for the Publishers Clearing house the past 30 years. He has 4 kids he said and I won 2.5 million dollars and a mercedez. He gave me two different confirmation numbers to NOT show anyone. He said to drive to nearest western union and send $299 to a Shauna Snodgrass in a town close by. My mistake I gave my name b/c I hadnt googled this before that. Hopefully it doesnt bit me in the butt for doing that. He did get a tad upset when I told him I googled it and it said this was a scam and he said if it was a scam he wouldn't have stayed on the phone with me while I do everything (i.e. go out to my car and honk the horn 3 times to show I was alone, and go to walmart after that to send some money). As soon as he gave me the lady's name to send the money I hung up and he called back twice.

  95. I received a call from 876 431 8664 from Don Green claiming I had won the 2nd prize in the PCH sweepstakes. Apparently I won $3.5m, a Dodge Chrysler 300, and $7000 a month. He also wanted me to hop into the car and drive to the Western Union to 'get my claim number' and to stay on the line with him while I did that. He said 'something happened' to the certified letter that I should have received notifying me that I had won and that is why he was calling. He tried to get me to visit the Western Union by closing today (but not to send money, not at all, just to get my claim numbers, lol). He even told me that I should be more trusting. After refusing to do this, he told me he would be contacting his 'delivery team' and hung up. notified the real PCH to let them know. It is terrible how these people prey on others in this way.

  97. I received two phone calls this morning from Michael King (876)366-9977. The first time he said he was with UPS and wanted to know if I still lived in Wisconsin. I said no, he hung up. The second call came in 3 minutes later, again from Michael King, this time he was calling from Publisher's Clearing House and said my name and number had been selected. He wanted to know if I would be home today to receive a delivery. I said no, he hung up again.

  98. I received a call with no caller ID this morning, telling me I had won 2.5 million dollars, and asking if I was home right now, because they would like to deliver my prize at noon. I didn't believe it, but I had to ask a few questions—I mean, what if I really did win 2.5 million dollars? LOL. I asked who he was, and what company he was calling from. Couldn't make it out with his thick accent. I said, "So you're telling me I entered a contest and won $2.5 million? What contest?" He says, "You remember shopping at WalMart?" Well, yeah... Who doesn't? He goes on, "We tried to mail you notification, but didn't hear back from you." I said, "How do I know this is not a SCAM?" He replies, "This is no joke. You can call a number for the Publishers' Clearing House to verify..." I said, "OK, what's that number?" And he hung up on me. Where's my 2.5 million??? These con artists will try anything. It would be funny, if it weren't for the sad stories in this post about people who lost their money to these selfish, cruel swindlers. So sorry to anyone who was tricked. What a bunch of jerks.

  99. I just about got scammed today. A James carter called me today from Jamaica 8763632268. Kingston Montego Bay. Told me I won $980,000 dollars And two gift cards of $10,000 each. All he wanted was my address so he can send someone over to deliver the money. Later called me and told me I had to pay taxes and fees of $1150 dollars to process the cheq. He called back later that night and told me I need to go to western union and make the cheq out to Whitney Jackson to off shore account in Jamaica w.i. He also gave me a email address to get a hold of him if I needed to contact him. Jscott999@yahoo.com. I played his little game and told him the money will be transfered tomorrow. I contacted anti fraud agency and rcmp. I googled his name and noticed that he's done this to a lot of people. Please don't fall for his scams. I made the mi stack of believing him at first and thought it was real, but I know it's all a scam. Interesting to see what happens tomorrow when I tell him the money transfer was sent. Lol. Thinking about calling Jamaica police and get him set up for fraud and put his ass in jail. Thanks for all your posts. Help me realize I was played but not scammed. Thanks again.

My husband actually believed him at first and sent a moneygram of 299 dollars to Mario Davis. I knew it was a scam in the beginning. I told him that it was a scam. It sounds too good to be true! But he didn't believed me because the man said that everyone is scare to take a risk that's why the prize keep getting passed on. He got my husband going to Walgreen and Walmart to get him a a check through moneygram. Micheal Anderson the man he claimed go be said after he's done with the transaction for him to go home get dress, looks nice, and they'll show up with cameras and a big check the size of a door and takes couple photos of us and that they show up with our Mercedes Bens and after that well go to the bank and they'll put those money in our account. The next thing he called saying they don't have enough time too come out due to the bank going be closed soon.
